    Is this the type that I keep in the freezer, and the gel is frozen and ready for use as needed? I don't have to add ice? Or if needed for heat I heat in microwave to appropriate temp and the wrap?

    Yes, it is a gel so no need to add ice to it. You can just leave it in the freezer.
